今天，西港國中的精英領導俱樂部成員參加了王宗鄰老師西港區木雕工作室的第二次培訓班。 他們騎自行車到工作室，由淑敏和Tony Coolidge以及當地社區其他四名志工陪同。

Today, the Elite Leadership Club members from Sigang Junior High School participated in their second training workshop at Master Wang's Woodcarving Studio in Sigang District. They rode their bicycles to the studio and were escorted by Shu-min and Tony Coolidge and four other volunteers from the local community.

當他們到達時，他們由王老師和他的三個教練接待。一如往常的王老師他們提醒學生安全程序，然後繼續在木雕車床上雕刻木材。 這8組有自己的機器可以使用，各組可能開始了一件新的藝術品，或者是完成他們以前的作品。

When they arrived, they were greeted by Mr. Wang and three of his instructors. They reminded the students of safety procedures, and then proceeded to carve wood on a spinning machine. The 8 teams had their own machine to use and either started a new piece of art or worked to complete their previous artwork.

這些藝術作品將在西港區公所和圖書館展出。這次學生的狀態更好了，似乎很喜歡體驗創作藝術作品。

The artwork will be on display at Sigang District Government Office and the Sigang Public Library.  The students were much better this time, and seemed to enjoy the experience of creating works of art.

Today, the Elite Leadership Club members from Sigang Junior High School participated in their first activity of the semester. They rode their bicycles to Master Wang's Woodcarving Studio in Sigang District. They were escorted by Shu-min and Tony Coolidge and four other volunteers from the local community.

當學生們到達時，他們受到王先生和他的三個助手的歡迎。 動手操作之前王老師先做工作安全宣導，然後展示如何使用特殊的刀具在木雕車床上雕刻木材。 在示範之後，27名學生分成8組，他們每組都有自己的機器可供使用。

When they arrived, they were greeted by Mr. Wang and three of his instructors. They discussed safety, and then proceeded to show how to carve wood on a spinning machine, using a special blade tool. After showing the example, the 27 students were divided into 8 teams, and they each had their own machine to use.

他們能夠將一個長方體的木頭雕刻成一個又圓又滑的木頭。並且展示了這個技能如何可以有實際用途，因為他們可以從這種技術製作一個棒球棒。

They were able to carve a rectangular shaped piece of wood into a smooth, round piece of wood. They were also shown how the skill can have a practical use, as they could make a baseball bat from the technique.

學生似乎很享受這樣的經驗。希望他們能相信，對於未來他們可以擁有許多技能和選擇。我們希望這有助於建立他們作為未來領導者的信心。

The students seemed to enjoy the experience. Hopefully, they can believe that many skills and choices are available for their future. We hope this helps to build their confidence as future leaders.

課 - 03-06-2017

我們珍貴的寒假結束了，我們在西港國中開始了一個新學期。 我們舉行了我們的領導俱樂部的第一堂課，並對我們俱樂部的樣貌感到驚訝。 我們有許多新的面孔，包括三個女學生。 所有的學生都選擇了這個社團，因為他們想要的經驗。

對俱樂部而言這是一個正面的訊息，一個新的開始，我們承諾要為這些年輕的生命做一些改變，並且為學生們與西港地區建立社區優越感。

我們今天有一個特別的客人。 在西港擁有一家木雕工作室的王宗鄰（和他的學生）介紹他的工作，並為學生準備接下來的幾個星期裡親手做的木工課程。

Our cherished Winter Vacation ended and we started a new Semester at Sigang Junior High School. We held the first classroom session of our Leadership Club, and were surprised at the makeup of our club. We had many new faces, including three female students. And all students chose to be in the club, because they wanted the experience.

This was a positive sign of a fresh start to a club that promises to make a difference for young lives, and to bring community pride to the students and locals of Signal District.

We had a special guest. Mr. Wang, (and his student) who owns a wood carving studio in Sigang introduced his work and prepared the students for their hands-on woodworking lessons that they will have over the next several weeks.
