在這一天，淑敏利用Powerpoint做了一個講座，向學生們講述了西港的歷史，其中還有關於不同宗教的介紹。這是為了下一次他們將要進行的旅行做準備。

On this day, Shu-min provided a Powerpoint presentation, teaching the students about the history of Sigang. There was also a presentation about different religions. This was to prepare the stuents for the trip they will take next time.

課 - 10-02-2017

西港國中菁英領袖社2017-2018版本已經重新啟動了。感謝淑敏老師的指導，社團發揮了新的意義和目的。本社團聚焦於帶領團員四處探索西港的各個區域讓學生可以有新的體驗，更熟悉他們的家鄉。大多數學生對他們的祖先從何而來知之甚少，淑敏老師知道找到根源的重要性。而且隨著社會的快速變化，台灣的許多文化和歷史遺跡正在消失，為道路和地區發展讓路。

The 2017-2018 version of the Leadership Club at Sigang Junior High has taken on a new life. Thanks to Shu-min's guidance, the club has taken on new meaning and purpose. The club focuses on taking members around to discover the different areas of Sigang District, where students can have new experiences and become more familiar with their home town. Most students don't know much about where they come from, and Shu-min knows the importance of finding your roots. Also, with society changing quickly, much of Taiwan's cultural and historical sites are disappearing to make way for roads and development.

在這一天，學生們騎著自行車20分鐘到達西港區的北部。後面跟著的是台灣電視台收視率最高的福爾摩沙電視台的製作人員。

On this day, the students rode their bicycles for 20 minutes to the far northern reaches of Sigang district. They were followed by a production crew for a TV show for Formosa TV, which is the highest rated television station in Taiwan.

從該地區一座罕見的山丘旁邊的一棵古老的榕樹開始，他們探索了金砂里。淑敏老師評論說，這棵樹看起來很有女人味。 然後，他們騎著自行車到一個台灣最有名的藝術家之一在村裡的故居。他們通過軍事基地，在金砂分校整備，他們只有大約20名學生。

They explored the village of Jing-sa-li, beginning with a very old banyan tree next to one of rare hills in the region. Shu-min commented that the tree looked very feminine. Then, the group rode their bikes to the home of one of the most famous artists in Taiwan, who has a home in the village. They passed a military base and settled at Jing-sa Elementary School, where they have only about 20 students.

金砂分校的主任和學生們等著我們，向我們展示如何玩一種叫做chalkball的歐洲運動。在教會我們的團員後，他們玩了一段時間然後，稍事休息，享受由主任提供的柚子。

The students, Dean and students waited for us, and showed us how to play the game of chalkball, which is a European sport. After teaching our club members, they played for awhile. Then, they took a break to enjoy sweet pomelos, provided by the Dean.

結束這趟旅程回到學校。那些小學生的體驗和團員們一樣都非常有趣。

After the excursion, the group rode back to school. The experience was just as fun for the elementary students as it was for our club members.

課 - 09-25-2017

新學年開始了，西港國中的菁英領袖社已經演變成一種特色。淑敏老師重組這個社團，重點聚焦於給予孩子們發現西港文化和遺產的經驗。儘管西港區不是一個很大的地方，但是很多當地人，特別是學生，對於西港文化和傳統的認知很有限。鑑於地方發展項目常常破壞文化和遺產地，所以重要的是要讓孩子們了解他們長大的地方。

The new school year has begun, and the Leadership Club at Sigang Junior High has evolved into something special. Shu-min has organized the club to focus on giving the children the experience of discovering the culture and heritage of Sigang. Even though Sigang District is not a very big place, many locals, especially student have limited experience of Sigang's culture and heritage. Given that culture and heritage sites are often destroyed for development projects, it is important to teach the kids more about the place where they grew up.

在本學期第一次校外學習，成員們走到一個當地的寺廟，並感謝神明。然後，他們走到台南市政府預定要拆除的台糖車站。淑敏老師和導覽人員為學生提供了這個地方的歷史視角，讓學生們可以理解為什麼有些人試圖保存它。

On this first trip, the club members walked to a local temple, and gave thanks to the Gods. Then, they walked to the Taiwan Sugar Railway Station, which is scheduled to be destroyed by Tainan City Government. Shu-min and a guide provided the students with a historical perspective of the place, so the students can understand why some people are trying to preserve it.

學生們喜歡走出校園，去獲得新的體驗。在這次活動中，學生們從街上撿起垃圾，然後得到冰棒獎勵。 我們為這個社團感到自豪，因為它現在已經成為學校最受歡迎的社團。我們希望在當地居民和支持者的幫助下，為未來的領導者提供更豐富，更有意義的經驗。

The students enjoyed getting out of the school for new experiences. On this trip, the students picked up garbage from the street, and then they were rewarded with popsicles. We are proud of the club, as it has now become known as the most popular club at the school. We hope that with the help of local residents and supporters, we can provide a richer, more meaningful experience for the future leaders.

課 - 06-19-2017

今天是西港國中菁英領袖社團本學期的最後一次課程。最後一次看到這些孩子們覺得有點難過，因為九年級的學生已經在上個星期畢業了，所以參加這次課程的學生只有八位。他們們這次被兩台車載到佳里區的慈濟中心。



Today was the last session of the Elite Leadership Club  from Sigang Junior High School. It was sad seeing the kids for the last time. There were only eight students, since the 9th graders graduated during the previous week. They were taken in two cars to Jiali District, where they were given a tour of the Tzu Chi Center.

學生們做了一次參訪，在那邊看見了一間慈濟經營的禮品店，他們訪問了這間節儉商店，裡面的商品都是用回收物做成的，並且所籌措到的資金都是用來做慈善的工作。學生們要利用這次的機會來做回收物的分解，把它們分解成塑膠類、紙類、金屬類。學生們通過一大堆被浸泡在醬油中的髒東西。顯然食品經銷商擺脫了這些過期不可銷售的庫存。

The students were given a tour and were shown the gift shop, where the products made by Tzu Chi are old. They visited the thrift store, where recycled items in good condition are sold to raise money for their charitable efforts. Then, they were given a chance to recycle garbage by separating them into plastics, paper, and metals. They went through a huge pile of dirty materials that were soaked in soy sauce. Apparently a food distributor got rid of their old, unsellable inventory.

當孩子完成之後，慈濟方面準備了一些飲料與餅乾來招待孩子們。他們都表達了新的學期還想要再參加菁英領袖社團！




After the kids were done, the were treated to tea and cookies. They all expressed how much they want to participate in the Leadership Club next year.

Exhibit - 6-4-2017

精英領導俱樂部在本學期舉辦了由其成員製作的木工藝品的公開展覽。 俱樂部的成員自豪地展示了自己製作過程，每個成員都寫了一張感謝卡給在地社區的贊助者們以表達感謝之意。

The Elite Leadership Club held a public exhibition of the wood crafts created by its members during this school semester. The members of the club proudly exhibited their work, and gave thank you cards and gifts to the supporters from the local community.

西港國中的校長林永上和教務主任在那裡接待所有來參觀的貴賓。淑敏老師和她的志工也在那裡分享了學生們精心製作的作品，並表達了關心和支持。

The Principal and Dean from Sigang Junior High School were there to greet all of the visitors. Shu-min Coolidge and her volunteers were also there to share the product of the students' hard work and show their caring and support.

今天的天氣是豪雨，但並沒有抑制那些到場的人的心情。到場參觀的人很踴躍，孩子們藉此機會也能夠與社區分享一些他們可以自豪的東西。

It was an extremely rainy day, but that didn't dampen the mood of those who came. It was a decent turnout and the kids were able to share with the community something they could be proud of.
